Author - Percival R Kirby

Publisher - Oxford University Press; 1966, First edition.

A very good hardcover book with a fair dustjacket.

Dustjacket is clipped and frittered along the top edges and a patch of paperloss from the top back edge and, wear along the flyleaf hinges; now in a loose protective plastic overwrap.

Illustrated end-papers. Pages xiii + 266 including index with fold-out map following.

The Grosvenor East Indiaman, wrecked on the coast of Pondoland, South Africa on 4th August 1782.

This book is a vivid reconstruction from the first-hand evidence of the whole story of the Grosvenor from the laying down of her keel to the latest attempts to salvage the vast treasures with which the ship is popularly supposed to have been laden.

The myths which have grown up round the stories of bullion and the Peacock Throne are examined and firmly disproved.
