I was a loser, a nothing, a nobody. I got picked on and ridiculed. Nobody liked me, myself included. And I desperately wanted to turn this situation around while pursuing what really mattered to me.

I grew up in a small town in Iowa located about 100 feet from a big water tower that hovered above my head. Each day when I walked outside my house I looked up and imagined what life would be like if I stood tall and could be seen from miles away, just like that water tower.

I didn't know how to do it. But I had some ideas. None of which included bending with the wind, trying to fit in or be one of the herd.

The path to self-respect I chose was not an easy one - but was it worth it?

YES.

So much so that to this very day, some 29 years after everything in my life took a sudden and dramatic shift for the better, the day in which I discovered what being UNBEATABLE really means - I can stand before crowds and captivate them with a story that every young boy or girl experiences, in one form or another, while attending high school.
