The Vanished Saddleback: The Story of Phalaborwa

(J. F Grewar)

Published by Purnell, Byanston, South Africa (1980)

Some insect damage. Chipping and loss to dustjacket.

"The Vanished Saddleback" is the story of the town of Phalaborwa in the Eastern Transvaal, now the scene of one of he largest mining operations in South Africa. Like many small mining towns, early progress was hampered by distance from the transport network and it was only in 1963 that the railway reached Phalaborwa and the huge potential of the region's mineral riches could be realised.
