Through a series of adventures and lessons, Tom learns the importance of kindness, honesty, cleanliness, and selflessness, gradually shedding his former bad habits and prejudices. His journey ultimately leads him towards redemption and a chance to return to human form, becoming a "great man of science" who contributes positively to society.
