Hard cover, blue boards, gilt lettering to front and spine, 287 pages. This copy published in 1954 by Hodder and Stougton, London. Illustrated with the author's photographs and diagrams and drawings by Harold A. Underhill. Signature and dated address of previous owner on first title page. The reverse of the first title page has foxing stains. Inside, the book is crisp and clean, binding tight.
The history of the square-rigged sailing ships.
The author describes the great vessels of yesteryear and the technicalities of sailing them. Those ships were in commercial use as late as the 1930's. A very good copy.
