220 b/w large photos, many line drawings and illustrations. The emphasis is on the earliest longcase and bracket clocks, from about 1670 to 1730, with a few later examples, all owned by one collector. Wetherfield, who died in 1928, made his fortune in coal and marine insurance. He assembled one of the largest collections of clocks from the "Golden Age" of clockmakers, with many by the most famous names. This book is based on the 1928 auction catalogue, with corrections and some editing. A mind-blowing assemblage of the rarest of the rare.
