This book arose out of a few articles that I wrote regarding my experiences in the retirement and elder care fields. It commences with the inevitable physical and cognitive decline inherent in the ageing process; includes dementia… a disease which will affect 25% of people over the age of 85. It goes on to examine the many choices which we will encounter as we approach retirement, and reflects on the development of retirement villages and what are euphemistically termed lifestyle villages. It also attempts to explain in simple terms the problems that may be encountered as well as the adaptations that will assist in optimising a period of life, which, if managed correctly, could be one of the most meaningful.
