The first short, Creaky Cranky, sees Thomas and Cranky squabble over which one is stronger, distracting the tank engine from delivering some eggs. In Tickled Pink, James is in the midst of getting a paint job (his first coat is pink) when Sir Topham Hatt orders him to pick up some children, which makes the engine feel embarrassed to be seen in public sporting pink. Thomas runs the steamworks in Steamy Sodor, but he's on too much of a power trip to listen to what each engine needs. The final episode is called The Early Bird, where Thomas takes over the mail run for Percy, but his refusal to ask for pointers on doing the job right leads to chaos all over the island of Sodor.
