Thomas Earnshaw is revered as a legend and pioneer in the field of Horology. Born in Manchester, England in 1749, he was celebrated for his work in refining, and improving upon the Marine Chronometers of the era. It was those Marine Chronometers, crucial to the journeys taken by the boats in the Royal Navy as they circled the globe during a golden era in English history of science and exploration. None more so than Chronometer no. 506, carried by HMS Beagle which carried Charles Darwin on his journey around the world to inspire his breakthrough study of evolution, "On The Origin of Species". Lauded for his work with marine chronometers, Earnshaw also embraced the challenge of developing clocks for use in Observatories such as those in Greenwich and Armagh and examples of his exquisite work can be seen in museums and auction houses around the world. It is this pioneering spirit to further the science of horology, coupled with a drive for excellence in craftsmanship that is at the heart of the Earnshaw timepiece which is available for the watch connoisseur and enthusiast alike.

Captain Matthew Flinders (1774 –1814) was a distinguished navigator and cartographer, who was the first to circumnavigate Australia and identify it as a continent.

It was Flinders who captained the majestic and historic journey of HMS Investigator – on which Earnshaw Chronometers E520 and E543 were carried and helped to successfully chart and document the continent of Australia.

Each THOMAS EARNSHAW timepiece is designed and manufactured to exceed the highest of standards. In order to ensure optimal performance and longevity from your timepiece, please review the simple guidelines for care and precautions of your new THOMAS EARNSHAW timepiece.

Your timepiece should be cleaned with a soft cloth and water only. Do not submerge your timepiece. Your timepiece should be rinsed clean and dried with a soft cloth after any saltwater use. In order to maintain the “new look” of metal bracelets, we recommend periodic cleanings of the bracelet. Dip a soft brush in warm soapy water and gently rub bracelet clean. We advise having your timepiece serviced every 18-24 months to ensure long use and trouble free operation.

While your THOMAS EARNSHAW timepiece has been designed and built to exacting specification, it is important to avoid the following conditions: extreme heat or cold, as well as prolonged periods of exposure to direct sunlight, exposure to wet conditions that exceed your timepiece’s water rating (see case back and chart). Never operate any of the function buttons or crown when timepiece is in contact with water. Avoid exposure to strong magnetic fields or sources of static electricity as these may interrupt the mechanisms inside the watch. It is also important to avoid extreme shock or impact.
