Thomas and friends is a British children's cartoon series. It is based on a book series called The Railway Series created by reverend Wilbert Vere Awdry.
It is about a group of trains and vehicles who live on the fictitious island of Sodor. The books are based on the stories Awdry told his son Christopher to entertain him while he recovered from the measles. A lot of the stories are based on events from Awdry's personal experience.
