T. reticulatus is a shrub succulent belonging to the Crassulaceae botanical family. The plant has a grows in tufts and forms short branches. The stem is thick, stout, gnarled, brown in color covered with a greyish, papery and peeling bark. The leaves are short-lived, elliptical, fleshy, soft and flexible, grey-green and borne at the apexes of the branches. The plant is a caudiciform so it forms a thick and woody subterranean caudex, from this the plant branches. Blooming occurs during the winter and buds are borne at the apex of the branches. The flowers are funnel-shaped, yellowish green, carried on short stalks. The stalks, after the flowers fall, harden and form a layer of protective spines.
