Many illustrations. Pages [i-vi]vii-xxii pp[1-6]7-398. Dust Jacket in excellent condition, jacket illustration from an oil by Thomas Baines, near Grahamstown, 1849,  booksellers label - Thorold's Africana Books -condition: as new.

Raymond Louw , editor of the Rand Daily Mail, recruited black journalists, covered news from the black townships, and exposed the corruption and brutality of the white oligarchy. The Sowetan described rhe RDM as the first white newspaper to regard blacks as human beings.

Originally published in 1923 amd written a few years before the Boer War, these eight essays and four appendices (notes) are concerned with the nature of South Africa and the relationships between Boers, Englishmen, Black and Brown people and the problem involved in forming a harmonious and united nation. Olive Schreiner foresees the developments that led to the Boer War.
