Three Years War (October 1899 - June 1902) by Christiaan Rudolf de Wet
First Publication 1902
On offer this very rare and highly valuable book with original cover, a true classic of the South African War. This is a First Publication, published in 1902 by Archibald Constable and Co Ltd. Written by General Christiaan Rudolf de Wet, a very readable account of war through the eyes of the author, with folding map at the back of the book and portrait of the author as frontispiece. Hard Cover, 520 pages, Index, Foxing on the inside covers, minor foxing in the book, measures 23x15x4cm. Some wear and age discolouration evident on the cover.
On 11 October 1899 when the war between Britain and the Boer republics commenced, Christiaan de Wet was a common burgher in the ranks of the Heilbron Commando. When the war ended three years later, he held the rank of "Vecht-Generaal" (fighting general). He had established a worldwide reputation as a most remarkable guerrilla fighter. He was the man the British couldn't catch. The damage this virtually unschooled farmer who'd never had a formal lesson in military tactics did was nothing less than astonishing.
Fantastic Find for the Serious Africana Collector!!!
