Three Years War (October 1899 June 1902) by General Christiaan Rudolf De Wet remains one of the most significant firsthand accounts to emerge from the Anglo-Boer War. Published in 1903 by Archibald Constable and Co. in Westminster shortly after the conclusion of the conflict, this work provides an invaluable contemporary perspective from one of the Boer Republics' most respected military leaders. De Wet became legendary for his guerrilla warfare tactics against British forces and his name remains synonymous with Boer resistance during the war.
This Popular Edition captures the experiences, campaigns, hardships, and strategies employed during the conflict from the Boer point of view. Three Years War is an important primary historical source and is highly sought after by collectors of Africana, military history, and Boer War literature. Copies of early De Wet editions remain desirable due to their historical significance and their direct connection to one of South Africa's defining conflicts.
The volume is bound in original red cloth boards with black titling to the spine and decorative blind-stamped design to the front board. While this copy shows significant wear and evidence of handling over many decades, Three Years War retains solid historical appeal as a reading and reference copy. The book also carries interesting provenance elements including a gift inscription dated 1966 and prior ownership markings.
An increasingly difficult Boer War title to source locally, particularly original early printings from the immediate post-war period. Three Years War is a solid addition to any South African military history collection, Boer War library, or Africana bookshelf.
