Sampson, Low, Marston, Searle, and Rivington, 1882, hardcover, first edition, 404 pp.
Condition: fair to good - ex-library copy - while the main binding is firm overall, there areĀ a few places where the gatherings are starting to separate; the text is affected throughout by fairly heavy foxing, particularly on the illustration pages; the fold-out map which is housed opposite page 1 is very creased, chipped, and with slight loss to the edges; the lower portions of the front and rear boards have been affected by worming (now completely extinct), and the free endpapers are very heavily oxidised; the outer boards are original, but worn, half-morocco leather (corners and spine), marbled boards, with the hinges at the top of the spine splitting; spine title gilt.
Overall, a square, but very worn copy of this scarce work, making for a good reading copy.
