Closely related to Garden, or Winter Thyme, aromatic French Summer Thyme has more narrow, pointed leaves with a bit of a grey tint. The famed culinary thyme from France, it is higher in essential oil content than other varieties and reputedly the most flavoursome Thyme you can grow with a stronger and sweeter taste.
French Summer Thyme is a perennial plant native to the Mediterranean and is a little less hardy than Winter Thyme. It will thrive in warm areas but is not cold tolerant and should be protected over winter or brought indoors in colder climates once there is a threat of frost. Pale mauve-pink flowers bloom at the tips of the stems in summer, the flowers are edible and are extremely attractive to bees.
