Offered for sale is a highly collectible tall stoneware carafe (wine or water jug) by esteemed South African studio potter, the late Tim Morris. This is a hand thrown stoneware item with an elegant tapering bottle shape , and shaped pouring spout .The upper portion of the carafe is glazed in an off white buff greyish mottled glaze with a band of olive green painted around the circumference as a decorative feature. The lower portion of the carafe is unglazed to form a striking and very aesthetic contrast. The piece is marked with the artists monogram TM impressed into the clay just above the base of the carafe.

Tim Morris (1941-1990 ) was born in the UK and emigrated to South Africa in 1965. He studied Fine Art at the St Martins School of Art until 1962 and subsequently attended the Central School of Art where he specialized in ceramic design. His style was influenced by the famous Anglo-Oriental ceramic practitioners of the early 20th Century Bernard Leach, and Michael Cardew and the second generation who continued working under their influence particularly Ruth Duckworth, Gordon Baldwin, Ian Auld and Lucie Rie. In South Africa Tim Morris became acquainted with Hyme Rabinowitz and worked in his studio in Cape Town before finally settling in Muldersdrift to the west of Johannesburg. Tim Morris had a long and successful career exhibiting frequently in South Africa through the Linda Goodman Gallery and also internationally. His work is represented in most national/provincial and corporate art collections in South Africa. He was also an influential teacher and mentor who encouraged some of the leading contemporary art potters of today including Chris Green, Jeremy Zinn , David Walters and David Schlapobersky
