Offered for sale is an attractive stoneware carafe (wine or water jug) by the late Tim Morris  (1941-1990 ) a highly esteemed South African studio potter. This a  hand thrown item made from high fired stoneware with the upper portion of the carafe glazed and hand painted with an elegant Japanese inspired motif of abstracted flowers and twigs. The palette is earth coloured and subdued with the body of the carafe unglazed in a granular textured brick coloured stoneware. The upper painted portion is in a pale grey/off white glaze with the motif of flowers and twigs in a pale blue and dark brown.

Tim Morris was born in the UK and emigrated to South Africa in 1965. He studied Fine Art at the St Martins School of Art  until 1962 and subsequently attended the Central School of Art where he specialized in ceramic design. His style was influenced by the famous Anglo-Oriental ceramic practitioners of the early 20th Century Bernard Leach, and Michael Cardew and the second generation who continued working under their influence particularly Ruth Duckworth, Gordon Baldwin, Ian Auld and Lucie Rie. In South Africa Tim Morris became acquainted with Hyme Rabinowitz and worked in his studio in Cape Town before finally settling in Muldersdrift to the west of Johannesburg. Tim Morris had a long and successful career exhibiting frequently in South Africa through the Linda Goodman Gallery and also internationally. His work is represented in most national/provincial and corporate art collections in South Africa. He was also an influential teacher and mentor who encouraged some of the leading contemporary art potters of today including Chris Green, Jeremy Zinn , David Walters and David Schlapobersky

This carafe  is one of two ceramic pieces by Tim Morris listed separately; the other complementary  item is a  tall stoneware carafe in a similar style
