First published 1946 by William Heinemann Limited, hardcover. The unclipped jacket has some loss to the top edge at the spine, as well as several small tears and creases. The faces are rubbed and worn, particularly on the folds, and the spine is sunned. The boards are clean and square, with the corners bent inwards. There is a pencil gift inscription on the first free end paper, but otherwise the pages are all clean and unmarked and undamaged.There are several colour and black and white illustrations by the author. A collection of observations of the author of his experiences in Cairo, Jerusalem, Cyprus, Beirut and other places during World War Two.
