An exceptional piece of 19th-century industrial TIN history. This heavy-duty canister was manufactured by J. Bartlett & Sons at their "Welsh Back" works in Bristol, England. Originally designed for professional use in a Victorian or Edwardian grocery shop, this tin is significantly thicker and more robust than typical household tins.
The base is clearly stamped with the maker's mark: "J. BARTLETT & SONS / BRISTOL / WELSH BACK". Bartlett & Sons were famous for their precision scales and shop fittings; their canisters are highly collectable today as examples of early British industrial craftsmanship.
CONDITION NOTES
INDUSTRIAL PATINA: The tin shows authentic age-related wear, including scuffs and surface oxidation consistent with a 100+ year-old shop fixture.
HEAVY GAUGE: Unlike modern tins, this is made of "thick-plate" metal, giving it a substantial weight and solid feel.
AUTHENTICITY: The maker's stamp on the base is clear and legible, confirming its origin in Bristols historic maritime district.
