Tinnitus as you are aware can be a traumatic condition. Conventional medicine has little to assist this problem. Ozone Therapy has proven to be one of the most effective therapies and in some cases works efficiently and quickly. Ozone assists with many underlying conditions including nerve damage. We also have a product called Tinnitus Remedy which will help in many cases. Deafness is not necessarily associated with tinnitus. There are a number of possible causes for it:

  • Ear wax is a common cause. Earwax builds up in the ear canal, to protect against trapped dirt and inhibit the growth of unfriendly bacteria. When the wax build up becomes too large and hardens it is not possible to wash it away naturally, which causes hearing loss and possibly tinnitus.
  • It is often caused by cellular damage within the inner ear. Each ear has over 20 000 tiny delicate hairs that are affected by changes to pressure caused by sound waves. These pressure changes result electrical signals being transmitted from your auditory nerve to your brain. Your brain 'reads' these electrical impulses as sound. If these tiny hairs are bent or broken in any way spurious signals are transmitted to the brain, causing this condition.
  • Damage to nerve cells in your ear or hearing centre may cause this condition.
  • Loud noise such as rock concerts, heavy machinery, chain saws, firearm discharge, and loud music from iPods and MP3 players may cause this condition. Short term loud noises, such as rock concerts may cause short term symptoms, however loud noises over extended periods of time may cause permanent damage.
  • Age related hearing loss called presbycusis may be a cause of this condition which usually starts at around the age of 60.
  • Changes to ear bones is another possible cause it. This condition may cause hearing loss as well as tinnitus. This is normally hereditary.
  • It may be an early indication of Meniere's disease which is an ear disorder that is characterised by inner ear fluid imbalances.
  • Temperomandibular joint (the joint where your jawbone meets your skull) disorders may cause the condition.
  • Head and neck injuries may cause it in one ear only.
  • a Possible benign tumour that develops on the cranial nerve that runs from the inner ear to the brain can also cause the condition in one ear. This is called an acoustic neuroma.

The following are very rare cases and are caused by blood vessel disorders and is called pulsatile tinnitus:

  • Vascular neoplasm is caused by a tumour pressing on blood vessels in your head or neck
  • Arteriosclerosis may be another cause of this condition. When plaque such as cholesterol builds up in your blood vessels and they lose their elasticity in the inner ear then the blood flow is forced by the heart, resulting in your ears detecting your heart beats. This kind is detected in both ears.
  • Hypertension may be another cause of tinnitus. High blood pressure may be caused by stress, alcohol and high doses of caffeine etc.
  • Narrowing or kinking of the carotid artery or jugular vein (flowing to and from the head) may cause irregular blood flow which results in this condition.
  • Arteriovenous malformation (abnormal connections between veins and arteries) may cause tinnitus in one ear.

Tinnitus may also be caused by allopathic medicines (pharmaceutical) and include:  certain antibiotics, antidepressants, aspirin, cancer medications, diuretics (water pills), Quinine medications (Malaria medications) along with others.

As you can see from the above there are many causes of tinnitus so some treatments will work for one person and not another. The first thing to check is if you have ear wax and have it removed by flushing. NES Therapy is effective in some cases and not others.

The only way to find which if any treatment will help is to try them. We have had very good results with many cases of tinnitus but results will vary from person to person.
