Tinus de Jongh etching - Church Square -Cape Town 1924

Signed by Tinus de Jongh and not by his son Gabriel. Etching has a Blind Stamp of de Jongh's profile

Paper is clear of foxing and discoloration marks and has not been glued onto board

Conservation framing methods have been used to frame this stunning etching. One of the earlier prints to be printed from the etched plate as the lines are clear and sharp with no blurring as is often the case with a well used plate

The National Mutual Life Association of Australasia Ltd. building was designed by famous architect Herbert Baker. The gabled facade made of imposing Cape Granite, built in 1905, is in his iconic Cape Revival style, an interesting fusion of Cape Dutch, Renaissance, and Victorian influences.  This is the original building, still standing,  predating the matching extension of 1933. . The old Senior Civil Service Club is on the left, still intact today.

Framed simply as it would have been done at the time of printing. Simple clean lines with no embellishments to distract from its simplicity

Print: 25.5 cm cm x 27.5 cm Frame: 47.5 cm x 37.5 cm ( Black frame 13 mm across x 25 mm deep)

Courier: Select Small - R150
