THE STORY OF THE TITANIC AN UNSINKABLE SHIP THAT SINKS ON ITS MAIDEN VOYAGE IN 1912 STILL LIVES ON ALMOST 100 YEARS LATER AND STILL PEOPLE ARE FASCINATED WITH THE STORY OF THE SINKING OF THE LARGST OCEAN LINER OF ITS TIME,
IN 1985 DR BALARD DISCOVERED THE LOST WRECK AND BROUGHT TO LIGHT SO MANY TRUTHS ABOUT THE SHIP UP UNTIL THEN PEOPLE BELIEVED THAT THE SHIP WAS STILL IN TACK AND NOT IN TWO PEICES
THE WRECK OF THE TITANIC LAYS 2 MILES BELOW THE ATLANTIC OCEAN AND WITH IN THE NEXT 30 - 40 YEARS THE SHIP WILL NO LONGER EXSIST, ALL THAT WILL REMAIN IS THE MEMORIES OF A TIME LONG AGO WHEN THE MIGHTY AND THE LOWLY WERE AS ONE AND DIED SIDE BY SIDE
ON THE 14TH APRIL 2012 IT WILL MARK THE ONE HUNDRED ANNIVERSARY OF THE INFAMOUS DISASTER OF THE SINKING OF THE GREAT SHIP, RMS TITANIC.
Titanic was an Olympic-class passenger liner owned by the White Star Line and built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland, UK. On the night of 14 April 1912, during her maiden voyage, Titanic hit an iceberg, and sank two hours and forty minutes later, early on 15 April 1912. At the time of her launching in 1912, she was the largest passenger steamship in the world.
The sinking resulted in the deaths of 1,517 people, making it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. The high casualty rate was due in part to the fact that while the Titanic was well within regulations for her day, she was not legally required to carry enough lifeboats for all passengers and crew on board. A disproportionate number of men died also, due to the women and children first protocol which was followed.
The Titanic used some of the most advanced technology available at the time and was, after the sinking, popularly believed to have been described as “unsinkable”. It was a great shock to many that despite the advanced technology and experienced crew, the Titanic sank with a great loss of life. The media frenzy about Titanic's famous victims, the legends about what happened on board the ship, the resulting changes to maritime law, and the discovery of the wreck in 1985 by a team led by Robert Ballard have contributed to the interest in and fame of Titanic right up to the present day.
