             DAVID GOLDBLATT `TJ - JOHANNESBURG PHOTOGRAPHS 1948-2010`SIGNED & DATED
IVAN VLADISLAVIC "DOUBLE NEGATIVE (NOVEL), SIGNED & DATED
both contained in a pictorial box sleeve)
Published by Umuzi, 2010, softcovers in a pictorial sleeve, first edition, 28.5 cms x 27.5 cms x 4.3 cms, condition: as new.

This is a luxurious box containing two books, a large book on Johannesburg, "TJ," with astonishing pictures by David Goldblatt, and a smaller second book, "Double Negative," with a novel by Ivan Vladislavic. This collection is an exceptional duo-edition in a special format--part fiction and part photo-essay. The book is about Johannesburg.

David Goldblatt  (1930 2018) was a photographer noted for his portrayal of South Africa during the apartheid period. His forms of protest have a subtlety that traditional documentary photographs may lack; Goldblatt said, "[M]y dispassion was an attitude in which I tried to avoid easy judgments.... This resulted in a photography that appeared to be disengaged and apolitical, but which was in fact the opposite."
