This work of art is called TLA Kwano and consists of wood, cow dung, soil and a variety of other natural materials.
It was inspired by my childhood days of spending time with my grandmother in a village called Matlapaneng,Greater Taung when we were still living in a mud house which she regularly decorated.
TLA Kwano is a mud and cow dung floor plastering application made by Batswana women usually in the main living area of the homestead. The sweep of the arm creates arch shaped ridges on the plastered surface which resonates with calling or inviting someone from afar.So in this case the women called the pattern TLA Kwano.
My granny also taught me how to make my own makgabe,(cultural skirt) which was commonly worn by young girls to dance for the visitors.
