Lee's book is a rare and welcome ex ception in the large-format illustrated history category. Representing two de cades of arduous (and fruitful) re search, it is a marvelous testament to the efforts of many early amateur pho tographers working with the Kodak box cameras that had just come on the market. Most of these photographs are previously unpublished or have ap peared only in now rare contemporary publications, and they are linked to gether by a solid, perceptive narrative. An unusual and most meritorious work.
