Published by Macmillan in 1898. This is a full leather prize edition for the Government of Natal Education Department. It has been gilt-tooled with a crest on the front and elaborate decoration on the spine. The endpapers are marbelled as are the page edges. A quality binding with a tissue guarded frontispiece. Lovely black and white illustrations by Arthur Hughes and Sydney Prior Hall. The illustrations and type are tactile, denoting age and quality of the edition. There is some age toning to the title pages. There is also a presentation pastedown for the award of Carpentry to Gilbert Lucas of the Maritzburg Boys' Model School. A beautiful book, still solidly bound and oozing with history.
