Russia has fallen under the control of ultra nationalistic politicians intent on rebuilding the Iron Curtain. This leads to conflict with NATO as Russia attempts to reclaim the breakaway Republic of Georgia, and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. As the regional wars escalate out of control, the casualties mount, and the Ghosts are sent in. Take command of the Ghosts through a series of missions that range from demolitions, to search and rescue, to all out firefights.
Ghost Recon is an atmospheric first-person shooter in the vein of Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear. Taking on the role of platoon commander of an elite special forces unit, your task is to command your way through 15 single-player missions, investigating downed helicopters, blowing up bridges and protecting troops as you try to stay out of trouble behind enemy lines.
The graphics are similar to that of the previous instalments by Red Storm, the game's developers, and the sound is superb, taking full advantage of Creative's EAX technology to bring you rolling thunder, tracer bullets as they whiz past and the echo of your own footsteps.
While there are plenty of options for the single player, Ghost Recon also offers great Multiplayer action and you can either play against each other or co-operatively.
If you're a fan of the original Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear this is simply more missions to chew on, but if you are looking for something a little more adventurous then you still can't beat Operation Flashpoint --Jason Denwood
