Just in case you missed out on anything the first time round, Eidos now give you the chance to catch up with the most infamous woman in the world of video games in Tomb Raider: The Trilogy Limited Edition. Back in 1996 the first of the Tomb Raider Series hit the console and PC market, unleashing a much-needed sex symbol and heroine.
The premise behind the opening game, Tomb Raider is simple: guide Lara around a tomb, gathering highly sought after treasure, solving puzzles and avoiding traps and monsters on the way. Naturally you aren't the only one that wants the gold, and you have Nemeses to contend with as well.
The second game in the series, Tomb Raider 2, has better graphics, bigger levels and more weapons and moves, but the highly addictive gameplay still retains the excitement that the first game introduced as you battle to recover the Dagger of Xian from a dragons belly.
The third game, Tomb Raider 3 in the series loses some of the addictiveness that the first two started and maintained, making the puzzles a little too hard, and the non-linear narrative makes the player lose interest in the story. The graphics are great, however, especially with a 3-D accelerated graphics card, and the extra moves add to the gameplay. That said, unfortunately this is the weakest game in the series to date.
In all, this box set is worthy of purchase if you didn't get the originals. The graphics in the first game look dated now, but the game play remains, while the follow-ups are good fun to play and look fantastic. This is a great trilogy of games that introduced the world to the legend that is Lara Croft. --Rob Hyde
