With a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale, it makes a hard wearing gems that will last a lifetime without abrasion.
This is a Natural Topaz that has been coated under high temperature/pressure. The coating is baked into the surface and will not rub off under normal wear and tear. This is a common and accepted treatment in the gem trade. The process coats the surface only ( up to 0.1mm) - if the stone is chipped, the underlying colour (Clear white) will show. However it is an extemely hard wearing coating and with care, will last many generations.
Looking through a 10 X jewelers loop the gems are well cut and polished. They are classed as IF/VVS (100% eye clean) and the facets are excellent with no chips or abrading.
