Extremely rare 1965 Alternative language (English) proof 2 cent coin, NGC graded Proof details cleaned. Of the 9 graded at NGC, this coin shares the highest grade.

Between 1965 and 1969, the proof coins in the proof sets would alternate between having an English or Afrikaans inscription. For example, the 1965 proof set issued to the public had the 1 cent in English, the 2 cent in Afrikaans, the 5 cent in English and so forth. These coins are fairly common. However, each year a very small number of proof sets were minted with the opposite languages on the coins as the normal sets. As these were often gifts to VIPs, they have come to be called VIP proof sets by collectors today. These are extremely rare and highly prized by collectors.

This coin is from one of those VIP proof sets, and the indisputable key coin for anyone collecting South African 2 cent coins. Good luck finding another.
