Topaz is a rare silicate mineral of aluminium and fluorine. Topaz in its natural state is colourless, while trace element impurities can make it pale blue, or golden brown to yellow orange. Topaz has a high specific gravity, and because of that it is often found in concentrated placer deposits. Much Topaz has been produced from placer deposits in Brazil and Nigeria.
