Core Box Router Bit

Cutting Diameter: 1/4"
Classification: Standard (Yellow)

-->

The Core Box Router Bit is an essential tool for creating a variety of decorative and functional rounded grooves,
channels, and slots in woodworking projects.

Characterized by its half-round (or semi-circular) cutting profile and typically made with durable materials like
Tungsten Carbide Tips (TCT) for superior sharpness and longevity, this bit is designed to plunge into the material
to form a round-bottom groove.

Its primary application is to produce a round bottom groove or channel, ideal for decorative work like fluting on
columns, creating reeding patterns, veining, or general ornamentation on furniture and panels. By using an edge
guide, it can also be used to cut coves. Compatible with hand-held, table-mounted, and CNC routers, Core Box Bits
are versatile for use with a wide range of materials including hard woods, soft woods, plastics, and various
composite materials.

Available in various diameters and corresponding radius measurements, selecting the correct shank size for your
router's collet is crucial for both safety and optimal performance.

Application:

  • Router bits are for use with router machines only.
  • Be sure that at least 3/4 of the shaft length is inserted into the router collet.
  • Do not 'bottom-out' the bit in the collet. The shank should be 1/8' from the bottom of the collet.
  • Route in two or more passes when large amounts of stock must be removed.
  • Carpenters
  • Craftsmen
  • Hobbyists
  • Woodworking
  • DIY

Features

  • Core box profile forms round-bottom (semicircular) grooves.
  • ¼ (6.35 mm) cutting diameter for fine flutes and lettering paths.
  • Precision-ground cutting edges help reduce fuzzing and tear-out.
  • Balanced, rigid body for smooth, low-vibration routing.
  • Compatible with standard router collets (match shank to collet size).

Benefits

  • Clean round channels: minimal cleanup versus straight-bottom bits.
  • Great detail control: ideal for signs, flutes, beads and accents.
  • Versatile: works handheld or on a router table with guides/templates.

Extra Information

  • Make multiple shallow passes for depth; clear chips between passes.
  • Use a straightedge or template for perfectly straight or repeatable flutes.
  • Match RPM and feed rate to material to avoid burning in hardwoods.

Pro Tip

  • For evenly spaced flutes, mark centers and use a fence with stop blocks; finish with a light final pass to polish the groove.
  • On veneered panels, score the path lightly first or take a skim pass to prevent lifting at the edges.
