NOT SURE WHICH TRAILER LIGHT TESTER TO CHOOSE?

Trailer Light Tester Comparison: Basic vs. Professional vs. Mini Toggle (ECON)

The basic trailer light tester has the same testing capabilities and functionalities as the professional and the Mini Toggle (ECON) trailer light tester, but without the built-in battery and charger. The testing requires a separate battery, which you must supply.

The professional tester remains the most popular and best-selling option, featuring a durable built-in 12V, 7.2AH battery and a fully automatic charger.

The Mini Toggle (ECON) trailer light tester, a new 2025 model, is designed to be both economical and ideal for DIY trailer or caravan owners. It features:

  • A built-in 12V, 1.4AH battery and a fully automatic charger
  • Compatibility with up to three 12V, 1.4AH batteries, allowing the capacity to be increased to 4.2AH if needed

This model is set to replace the professional tester as LED technology, which requires less power than traditional light globes, becomes the standard. Consequently, a high battery capacity is no longer necessary.

These three testers are specifically designed for light vehicle trailers and caravans. While they can also be used to test truck trailers and interlink trailers.

This is just a quick guide to help you choose the right trailer light tester. Please click on the link below to explore our full range of our trailer light testers.

Device description:

They are easy to operate and completely portable, which makes working with them a lot more practical and convenient.

Test the electrical light circuits of your vehicle, caravan, or trailer separately and independently.

Include a fully explanatory guide and videos on how to carry out the tests correctly.

It is made of high-quality materials, but if something breaks, it can be repaired or replaced.

Certain tasks that previously required the assistance of another person are no longer necessary.

Test truck trailers, light vehicle trailers, interlink trailers' and caravans' electrical tow plugs (round 7-pin), wiring, and lights.

A built-in 12-volt, 1.4-Ah FORBATT battery is ready for use. Just make sure the battery is always charged, whether you're at the workshop or the job site. Additionally, a fully automatic charger is included. Connect the charger after your workday is finished so that it can recharge over night for the following day.

Supply power from the battery to the tester, controlled by a rocker switch through a power relay.

Tests are carried out through toggle switches.

Testing circuits are protected by a standard automotive blade fuse (7.5 A). The fuse holder is situated next to the trailer socket on the tester.

Fuse-protected output terminals (12 V) are situated on the tester's sides.

Side handle for easy carrying.

Reverse polarity protected and fly-back voltage protected.

Economical and up-gradable option.

Testing features:

Check the wiring circuit standard (SABS).

Test 12-volt standard light globes.

Test 12-volt and 24-volt LED lights.

Test the stop light wiring and light bulbs, or LEDs.

Test the left-hand tail light wiring and light bulbs, or LEDs.

Test the right-hand tail light wiring and light bulbs, or LEDs.

Test the left-hand indicator wiring and light bulbs, or LEDs.

Test the right-hand indicator wiring and light bulbs, or LEDs.

Perform a load test on the earth/ground wire.

Earth/ground wire test: the tester will immediately indicate when there is no earth/ground connection. It will also show a swapped earth/ground wire between light circuits or on the auxiliary circuit.

Short circuit test: the easily replaceable fuse on the tester will blow when a short circuit occurs on wires, globes, globe fittings, and damaged plugs or sockets. Refer to the user guide to learn how to safely and adequately test for shorts using this tester.

***************

  • High-grade materials go into making the testers, including the batteries, which run on FORBATT VRLA batteries.
  • For peace of mind, we build and repair the testers that we sell. So, if something breaks, we can repair it.
  • The user guide and other important documents are available for download from our website.
  • Videos are on YouTube to learn more about the different types of tests performed on a test bench.
  • With LED technology, twenty-four-volt power is no longer necessary to test the lights of the truck trailer unless the trailer still uses twenty-four-volt globes. These LED lights are multi-voltage, which means they are compatible with twelve-volt (12 V) and twenty-four-volt (24 V).
