A true ripping yarn

This autobigoraphy, of the brother of actor Nigel Bruce (who played Dr Watson opposite Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes) is an epic of travel and adventure from 1901 to 1950 involving two world wars, a stint in the Rhodesian Police Force and travels and trade in South America. It portrays, with some candour, a life which would simply be impossible to lead today. The author, without false modesty decribes various scrapes and dangers with aplomb and reveals himself to be a man of action tempered with insight borne of wide experience the world over.
It is not a scholarly work but, rather, one which impresses the reader with the easy narrative style and good humour of the writer. I came across my copy in a charity shop, dog-eared and tattered but it has been read many times over. If you find one, buy it.
