Transfigured Echoes: Recent Paintings by Liu Dan was a significant exhibition held at Eskenazi Limited in London from 14 October to 14 November 2015.
The show featured ten new works by the contemporary ink master, coinciding with Frieze London and Asian Art in London. The exhibition was also accompanied by a bilingual hardback catalogue.
The collection explored pioneering abstract landscapes and the traditional literati theme of scholars' rocks, all rendered with meticulous ink brushwork.
A centerpiece of the show, Redefining Pleats of Matter, was created in direct response to Raphaels drawing Saint Benedict Receiving Maurus and Placidus, which was displayed alongside Liu Dan's work.
The ten works included:
Four large-scale abstract landscapes panoramic in scale.
Six depictions of scholars' rocks, such as the Taihu Rock of the Shaoyuan Garden.
The exhibition catalogue, designed by Daniel Eskenazi, serves as a permanent record of these works.
Author/Essayist: Ackbar Abbas (essay "Liu Dan's Art") with a foreword by Giuseppe Eskenazi.
Includes full-page colour illustrations, biographical notes, a list of previous exhibitions, and four fold-out plates.
