On offer is a cover (PFSA Certificate no. 11657/2004) with the extremely rare double circular "Umtonjaneni" datestamp with backstamps recording the cover having passed through Vryheid (17-12-97) to Stellenbosch (24-12-97).
According to Putzel, this postal agency, located on the south-eastern border of the Transvaal and Natal, opened on 1 August 1896 as "Umtonganeni" and was renamed in 1897.
A rare and historic item of Transvaal postal history.
