This very special postcard reveals the following story:

1.  Posted at LETJESBOSCH in the Cape Of Good Hope on 18/12/1909.

2. Also carries feint WESTERN TPO - UP datestamp on adhesive.

3. Arrives at STELLENBOSCH on 20/12/1909.

4.  At Stellenbosch it receives the scarce "OFFICIALLY REDIRECTED AT STELLENBOSCH" square purple cachet.

5.  It is endorsed in red manuscript "FRED ZIERVOGEL ESQ -  AMERSFOORT VIA VOLKSRUST".

6.  It leaves STELLENBOSCH after receiving another datestamp.

7. The postcard is received at DRIEFONTEIN on 24/12/1909 which datestamp, according to Putzel, is "NOT YET SEEN".

8. It then leaves DRIEFONTEIN on 27/12/1909 and

9. Is received at DRINKWATER on the same day. According to Putzel, citing Seeba (Werner), "this datestamp is a great rarity" and has only been seen once before (interestingly enough datestamped on 25/12/1909), and that the postal agency only existed for the period from September 1909 to July 1910.

The combination of the DRINKWATER and DRIEFONTEIN datestamps on one postacrd would appear to make this item quite unique.

Then there is the other side of the card with the photo and manuscript inscription of the overflowing Beaufort West Dam - Itself a rarity in this drought-ravaged Karoo of ours!!
