Cover from unknown origin within ZAR addressed to "p k Kromdraai, Distrik Middelburg" with Standerston backstamp of 12 May 1900 and Trichardsfontein cds of same date.

Putzel lists 2 offices for Trichardsfontein. The first, 1890 - 1899, closed due to the Boer War, but this cover shows that the post office/agency was still operational or the cds was still being used. The second office is listed as being open from 1904 to 1906 whereafter it was renamed Trichardt.

Both datestamps are very rare.

Trichardtfontein, 20 kms east of Kinross, was founded as a new Dutch Reformed parish and proclaimed a town in 1906. The town was apparently named for Carel Trichardt, eldest son of Voortrekker leader Louis Trichardt.
