Breaking every law of composition in every "How to Paint" manual, Chris Spies of Great Brak River places his trees (for this is one of the last two of a series) slap bang in the middle of the work, yet the result is far from boring (as the manuals will warn), but rather makes the tree the hero as your eye wanders up its strong trunk and into the colourful leaves and branches. In the "Tree of Knowledge", there are abstract shapes at the base of the tree, which whilst not appearing to resemble anything to do with the symbology of the Kabbalah do hint at some sort of inner working or formulated great scheme.
This gifted artist has 11 publications up to date , amongst others the hand printed book titled : Frans Claerhout" Morwa wa Lerato" ) (Sotho for a loving person).
The acrylic painting on board measuring 1220 mm x 1220 mm is being auctioned to raise funds for the Great Brak River Museum. The Painting may be viewed at the Great Brak River Museum or at the Trans Karoo Restaurant at the Great Brak River station.
