TREK POLE
Experienced hikers have discovered that using poles/walking sticks definitely assists when walking uphill and downhill.
Poles “work your arms, shoulders, chest and upper back muscles through a full range of motion as you walk.” The intent is not just to help you with your balance but to increase your aerobic intensity and thus burn more calories, as well as helping to firm loose flesh that often develops as a body ages in the triceps’ area.
The other great value of hiking poles is that they take some of the weight load that pounds your knees, hips and lower back when walking, hiking or trekking on a route that has ups and down.
FEATURES
Anti-shock springs can be turned on and off with a twist of the pole; use the extra cushioning for going downhill and the rigid support for uphill.
Extra-long, natural-shaped grips allow you to drop a hand to a lower position on the grip during intermittent traverses.
Wide nylon wrist-strap offer non-constricting comfort; lined with soft cloth to prevent chafing.
Fully adjustable three-section design provides a custom fit for any trekker and varying terrain.
Quick-release baskets twist off easily
Tungsten carbide tips offer long-wear
KEY BENEFITS
When climbing uphill you can shorten the poles and gain more power with each step.
Multiple people can use the same set of poles simply by adjusting the length.
For long downhill segment of a trail, you can adjust the poles to be longer and take a lot of the strain off of your knees.
The poles are collapsible to stow them away in your pack, safely out of the way.
Grips that have been shaped to fit in your hand comfortably
Poles have padding below the handgrip and on a short uphill climb you can grasp the pole below the grip versus taking the time to adjust its length.
The anti-shock system helps absorb the impact of the pole striking the ground as you walk, easing the strain on your shoulders and arms. This especially helpful on a long downhill climb. When you are going uphill the shock absorbers will actually work against you, robbing you of power each time you plant the pole down – therefore the pole has a unique feature enabling the anti – shock system to be turned off.
The baskets are the round rings at the bottom of the trekking poles. These baskets allow you to maintain, "float," a term used to describe the poles ability not to sink into the ground.
