With its 96 colour plates, 76 line drawings and 256 pages of text it is a master work that occupied its author for seventeen years and involved thousands of miles of travelling. As a reward for her unique work, Barbara Tyrrell was honoured by the University of Natal with a doctorate in Philosophy.
