Crimson Clover [ Trifolium Incarnatum ] is native to Europe and has adapted itself to many different soil types. Moist soil is essential for germination and establishment. Crimson clover, as a winter annual, is usually planted in the late summer to early fall. If it is planted in the early fall it will provide a dense carpet of vegetation that provides excellent ground protection. Crimson Clover [ Trifolium Incarnatum ] is also a nutritious grazing plant for livestock, and it is commonly planted as a cover crop on farms because it fixes nitrogen in the soil, suppresses weeds and reduces erosion. Crimson Clover does not survive extreme heat or cold and grows best in cool, humid weather.
