The pepper is a particular strain of Trinidad Scorpion which is named after Butch Taylor, the owner of a hot sauce company. The "scorpion" peppers are referred to as such because the pointed end of the pepper is said to resemble a scorpion's stinger. As of April 12, 2011, the world's hottest pepper according to Guinness World Records was a specimen of Naga Viper pepper. A laboratory test showed a specimen of Trinidad Scorpion Butch T at 1,463,700 Scoville heat units, making it hotter than a specimen of the Naga Viper's at 1,382,118.
