"Turritella Agate" is based on a case of mistaken identity.  This intriguing stone consists of fossils of freshwater snails that were deposited in a series of ancient lakes in present-day Wyoming.  When first discovered, they were mistaken for Turritella, a genus of marine snail with a similar high-spired shell, but that lives only in the ocean.  The name for this distinctive fossil stone has persisted, although the snails whose shells you see in these tumble-polished specimens are correctly classified as Elimia tenera, not Turritella.  They lived during the Eocene Epoch, about 50 million years ago.Turritella Agate is a spiritual crystal, deeply connected to the earth and home, to one's personal roots and ancestry, even the events of one's past.
