Her overarching memory of the expedition seems, relying on the preface, to have been not the hardships and discomfort encountered, but rather that every "one we met seemed to think no trouble to great and no inconvenience worth considering which could minister to our comfort; and we shall always retain the most grateful remembrance of the wonderful hospitality of South Africa."
