Early 20th century half leather binding by W. E. Burmester of Johannesburg. Bookplate and signature of Julius Jeppe to the pastedown. Gold pattered end papers. Two page reviews of the book before the half title. Frontis and 13 illustrations by the author and a folding map to the rear. Some age toning and what appears to be smoke damage to a few page edges. This is the second and revised edition of the author's work. He travelled extensively through the regions north of the Cape Colony including the Orange river and Griqualand West.
