According to Hern’s Handbook on South African Banknotes & Paper Money “Joseph Barry (later Chairman of the Swellendam Bank) founded this firm and issued notes in the 1850s. The notes were issued in the Swellendam area (viz. Bredasdorp, Fort Beaufort, Riversdale and Montagu). After the death of Barry in 1865 the firm went into liquidation”.
These notes are unused and catalog at R1 500 each in XF condition.
