DESCRIPTION | A beautifully matching pair of CARVED EBONY ELEPHANT FIGURINES. Whilst the bodies are of ebony, the tusks, nails and eyes are made of bone. They are very expertly carved (probably in India) and were carved as a pair, because the one steps forward with the right front and back legs and the other one with the left front and back legs and the tails and trunks also swing in different directions. By all appearances (the art deco style and the fashion of the time) this lovely ornamental elephant pair was manufactured in the 1920s or 1930s. They each stand 15.5 cm tall at the highest point are about 9 cm wide and about 21 cm long. The figurines are carved from solid and heavy ebony and the 2 together weigh 2.2 kg. You can see an image of the pair together above and there are six more images and further particulars below. Please have a look at them and ask a question if there is anything you are unsure about. |
CONDITION | One figurine is in excellent condition with no damage and the other has a couple of minor flaws which are shown and described in an image below. |
An exceptionally lovely and vintage item for the collector of elephant related items or figurines. This is a very nice matching pair which is expertly carved and will look really nice in a period setting. |
