HADDON HALL – PATTERNED PLATE – JOHNSON  BROTHERS - ENGLAND

On offer two hand engraved plates depicting  a 16h century scene of “The Elopement of Dorothy Vernon”

Dorothy Vernon (1544 – 24 June 1584), the younger daughter of Sir George Vernon, was the heiress of Haddon Hall, an English country house in Derbyshire with its origins in the 12th century. She married John Manners in 1563. The couple's descendants, the Dukes of Rutland, continue to own Haddon Hall. A legend grew up in the 19th century that Vernon and Manners eloped, and a number of novels, dramatisations and other works of fiction have been based on the legend.

Both plates coloured blue and white have an attractive scalloped edge.

The larger oval meat plate has some markings on the edge, consistent with age and use.  Size31cms x 26cms.

The smaller plate is in very good condition, circular with a scalloped edge.
Size 26cms.

Something different  that would go well in a blue and white collection.

The price is for both plates and postnet to postnet  is R100 for both plates plus insurance
